If the light glows a shade of red, it means: “Electricity is really expensive right now, shift discretionary use to another time of day.” If the light glows a shade of yellow, it means: “Electricity is expensive, reduce your consumption.” If the light glows a shade of green, it means: “Electricity is less expensive right now.”

 In addition to the colored light, the Joule has a digital screen with two bar charts that show 1) the real-time price of energy per kilowatt (the longer the bar, the more expensive the kilowatt). This data comes wirelessly from your energy company. And 2) The amount of much energy you’re using in your home right now (the longer the bar, the more energy you’re using). This data comes wirelessly from the energy meter in your home.

Just plug it in—the Joule will tune into to the Ambient Infocast Network.  No subscription required.  The Joule changes color to indicate real-time energy cost.
